FIX: Comma 3X/3 Dashcam Mode Issue

How to fix the dashcam mode problem — whether from a setup choice or a car fingerprinting failure.

Warning

DO NOT install the Master-Ci branch on a Comma 2. It is only compatible with the Comma 3X and Comma 3.

Cause 1: You Selected "Dashcam Mode" During Setup

During initial setup, you may have clicked "Dashcam Mode" instead of installing openpilot. To fix this, simply install openpilot properly.

Cause 2: Your Car Isn't Being Recognized (Fingerprinting Issue)

If openpilot can't identify your car's electronic fingerprint, it falls back to dashcam mode. You'll need to follow the fingerprinting guide on Comma's GitHub.

Before Trying Fingerprinting

Before going through the full fingerprinting process, try installing the Master-Ci branch first. This development branch may already support your car.

You can also try sunnypilot, which sometimes supports vehicles not yet recognized by stock openpilot.
