Set up your comma 3X or comma three

Check the exact car, install the hardware while parked, start with openpilot, and prepare for your first drive.

Four steps to get ready

  1. Step 1

    Check your exact car

Confirm the year, trim, region, driver-assistance package, and required harness before connecting anything.

    Check my car
  2. Step 2

    Mount and connect the hardware

Keep the car parked. Follow comma's installation pictures for the harness, cable, mount, and mirror trim.

  3. Step 3

    Install openpilot first

Use the on-device setup flow and start with stock openpilot. This gives you the clearest path if the hardware needs support.

  4. Step 4

    Finish setup before driving

Follow every device prompt, confirm the correct car was detected, and review the controls before beginning a drive.

    Read the safety guide

Before the first drive

  • The device and harness are fully seated and the mount does not block your view.
  • The screen identifies the expected car and does not remain in dashcam mode.
  • You understand the alerts and stay ready to steer, brake, or accelerate at all times.

Something went wrong?

If the device stays in dashcam mode, recheck the exact car configuration before changing software. For hardware problems, return to stock before contacting comma support.

Want different software later?

First confirm the device and car work correctly on openpilot. Then use the guided matcher or compare two projects without assuming every feature works on every car.
