Bring your own SSH key

A private key unlocks device access. Generate one for yourself, keep it private, and replace it if it has ever been shared.

Before you start

Three simple steps

    Get OPTK from its official Releases page

    Choose the current Windows download or Android package published by the project. Avoid old direct-download links.

  2. 2

    Park and join the same Wi-Fi network

    Keep the comma device parked while you connect it to the computer or phone running OPTK.

  3. 3

    Use the SSH wizard with your own key

    Create or install a key you control, then open only the tool you need—such as file access, video review, or the terminal.

Use it carefully

  • Use a unique SSH key you control. Never download or share somebody else's private key.
  • Changing or deleting device files can break software. Back up anything important first.
  • Confirm the current project instructions for your device before relying on an older username, port, or app walkthrough.

Windows walkthrough

  1. Download the current Windows archive from the official Releases page.
  2. Extract it and open OpenpilotToolkit.exe.
  3. Install a requested Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime, then reopen OPTK.
  4. Use OPTK's SSH wizard and device scan while both devices share Wi-Fi.

About the older guide

The original 2022 walkthrough also used FileZilla, JuiceSSH, and AndFTP. Those app, username, and port steps may no longer match every device or release, so they are not presented as the current default here.

OPTK is maintained outside the comma project. Check its own documentation before using a feature that changes files or software on your device.
