A more relaxed highway drive in your gas F-150

Your F-150 can do more of the repetitive highway work. With a compatible truck, comma adds openpilot lane centering while Ford’s adaptive cruise manages following speed. Get the fit right, and you can keep the truck you love while upgrading the drive.

The fit: 2021–2023 with Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0

These are the gas F-150 years and equipment in comma’s official compatibility list. Check your window sticker or ask Ford to confirm the package before ordering. Engine size alone is not the deciding factor. For another model year, use the car finder and confirm support before buying; this guide does not establish compatibility for 2024 or newer trucks.

Why change if the truck already has BlueCruise?

The case for comma is straightforward: no Blue Zone map restriction and no required driving subscription. For an owner frustrated by coverage gaps or renewal costs, those can be meaningful everyday benefits. BlueCruise remains the built-in option with no extra windshield device to install. Compare the Ford plan available to you with the complete comma setup cost.

comma steers. Ford manages following speed.

The standard setup combines openpilot lane centering with the truck’s factory adaptive cruise. You do not need experimental gas-and-brake control to benefit from assisted steering. The official listing includes steering down to a stop and automatic resume from a stop. You remain responsible for responding to stopped traffic, hazards and any situation the assistance cannot handle.

Less steering effort on long trips

Instead of making every small lane-centering correction yourself, let the system assist while you supervise. openpilot’s driver camera removes routine wheel-tug reminders. Its maker advertises the possibility of hours without intervention, but your route may need frequent takeovers. Stay ready throughout the trip; the system does not make your F-150 autonomous.

What you need to buy

Start with a comma four and the Ford Q4 connection kit selected for your exact F-150. The official parts list includes the mount, harness box, power accessories, short OBD-C cable and long OBD-C cable. Review the F-150 installation video before ordering or arranging installation. The Lightning-specific coupler belongs to the electric truck’s setup, not the gas F-150 parts list.

Start with openpilot; explore BluePilot if you want more

Official openpilot is the starting point for this supported gas F-150. BluePilot is a separate community option with Ford-focused settings. You can explore its controls before deciding whether you want the extra choices and community support involved. Select software for your comma device and truck together.

Towing: firsthand experience, extra vigilance

Commaguide’s owner reports successful use of comma while towing. Stay especially vigilant, watch how your truck and trailer respond, and be ready to steer or brake immediately. You remain responsible for the truck and trailer at all times. This experience does not confirm every truck, trailer or software combination. Confirm your setup with your software project and follow Ford’s towing instructions. Keep trailer detection and other safeguards enabled.

Own a hybrid or Lightning instead?

The F-150 Hybrid has its own 2021–2023 listing. Lightning uses a separate community setup with extra connection hardware. Follow the guide for your truck so you order the right equipment.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Do I need an active BlueCruise plan?

No. openpilot does not require a BlueCruise subscription. The supported truck and required factory equipment still matter.

Will it fit any gas F-150?

No. The official listing covered here is 2021–2023 with Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0. Confirm the exact configuration before purchasing.

Does openpilot control the gas and brakes on this F-150?

Factory adaptive cruise controls speed in the standard setup. Optional openpilot gas-and-brake control is an alpha feature on development software, not something you need to enable for the normal steering upgrade.

Can comma work while towing?

Commaguide’s owner reports that it does in their firsthand use. Stay especially vigilant and ready to take over. You remain responsible for your truck and trailer. Confirm your exact setup rather than assuming every combination behaves the same.
