Keeping a truck centered mile after mile is exactly the kind of repetitive work driving assistance can take off your hands. comma advertises that openpilot can drive for hours without intervention. Think long stretches of supervised assistance, not a promise that you will never need to steer or brake. Traffic, sharp bends, weather and roadworks can all require you to take over.
No routine tug on the steering wheel
openpilot uses a driver-facing camera to check your attention instead of asking for routine steering-wheel input. You still watch the road and stay ready to take control immediately. BlueCruise also offers camera-monitored hands-free driving in its supported areas; comma’s appeal is not having that experience tied to Ford’s Blue Zone map.
Beyond the Blue Zone map
BlueCruise’s hands-free mode depends on designated Blue Zone highways. openpilot uses its cameras to follow the road rather than Ford’s map of approved highways. That is a compelling reason to consider it if BlueCruise coverage leaves gaps on your trips. It does not mean every road is suitable. Use the software within its operating limits and keep responsibility for the drive.

Budget for the comma device, the correct connection kit and any installation help. Ford offers several BlueCruise purchase and renewal options. Eligible models also have a one-time option when buying the vehicle. Compare the offer for your own Ford; not everyone pays monthly.

The regular F-150 and F-150 Hybrid have official openpilot listings for 2021–2023 with Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0. The 2022–2025 Lightning has a separate community-software route through BluePilot or StarPilot and needs extra hardware checks. A BlueCruise badge alone does not establish comma compatibility.
What about towing a camper or trailer?
Yes, comma works while towing with the right setup. It’s an amazing upgrade for long highway drives. Stay especially vigilant and ready to steer or brake. You remain responsible for your truck and trailer. Match your truck’s year, equipment and software before buying. What stays with Ford, and what comma changes
On the F-150 setups covered here, comma provides lane centering and factory adaptive cruise handles speed by default. That means your truck can still follow traffic while comma helps steer. Optional software control of gas and brakes is an early-testing feature with additional requirements. BluePilot is community software for comma; it does not activate or upgrade Ford BlueCruise.

Want less repetitive steering, assistance beyond Blue Zone coverage and no required driving subscription? Those are strong reasons to consider comma for a Ford you already enjoy. Does comma require a BlueCruise subscription?
